Let's face it- school is getting weird. All of a sudden (or so it feels like) a person can take an entire class, get full credit, and even get a degree without ever actually GOING to a class. Online school is adapting and evolving quickly, and even universities like BSU incorporate a large amount of online curriculum. This "Back to the Future" assignment shows us how filmmakers in 1987 predicted school may be like one day. The funny part is, they were wrong. However, the even funnier part is they were actually right as well.
Those films were correct in a couple of ways. First off, we DO have communication through video in our current time. Two people can look at a computer screen and talk with someone who is also just looking at a computer screen. This video was also correct in that the Internet allows us to have many shortcuts in our learning, especially in reference to time management. Instead of researching and finding information in a library, one can simply tell the Internet what they want, and the Internet will bring it to us in an instant.
This presentation was also wrong in some ways. Currently in our education system, we may be connected to our school over the Internet in many ways, but it is not common for students be connected via video to their classes that they are missing. We are still allowed a certain amount of freedom, and when we are home, we are allowed to be home, and home only.
